We just finished up an epic 9 day road trip through Quebec, the Maritime provinces and Boston. I am planning a post about the road trip as well as a post about road tripping with an EV. But first I want to share what I carried around in my sightseeing day bag.
When we are travelling with our kids I try my best to travel hands free. That means using a backpack or a crossbody bag. I find crossbody bags that can carry as much as I need are hard on my shoulders for all day sightseeing so for this type of trip I used a back pack.
Shown in the photo above: Backpack // scarf (similar) // traveler wallet (gifted) review here // zip pouch (gifted) //
The backpack is one I had been looking at for some time and I was able to snag via the outnet. They still have some of the same styles available HERE. But the exact one in the same size is here for Canadians or here for US.
What I liked about this bag is that it was roomy enough to pack all the other things I am going to list out as well as being able to clip over the zipper. This make it a bit safer against anyone trying to sneak into your bag. I also live the zippered compartment on the side closest to your back which is great for storing your phone or things you want to keep extra safe.
The only drawback I found was when I was wearing a t-shirt the buckles could be uncomfortable throughout the day. I didn’t notice this with long sleeves.
All the things I carried in my sightseeing bag
Camera – Some days I carried two cameras, my DSLR and this mirrorless camera. Both fit with no problems, however I find for traveling the mirrorless camera is much more useful.
Traveler Wallet – to be fair I use this wallet every day. But it is extra great for traveling because of its extra slots and pockets.
Zip pouch – because part of our road trip was through the US so that we could see Boston I used this zip pouch to organize our passports. Since we were in a different city every night I wasn’t keeping these in my day bag.
Scarf – I didn’t carry this every day but it was a must for the days we were on the water. Particularly the day we went on the whale watching tour I needed all the layers.
Sweater – I like to be able to have a sweater with me JUST IN CASE. And it came in handy more than a few times. But it was also nice to have somewhere to stash it when I got too toasty.
Rain jacket – just like the scarf I didn’t carry this all the time. There were a few days when it was rainy and the whale watching tour it was a must.
Sunglasses – most of the time I was wearing my sunglasses but I did stash them in my pack when we were at restaurants or inside.
That was the vast majority of what I was carrying around in my sightseeing bag. I did use the side pockets to carry lipstick and chap stick (this one) and sometimes the room keys. For the most part however I filled up the main section.
