I was at Yorkdale today looking for a pair of skinny jeans to replace the pair that ripped pretty much everywhere. And with there being at least 2 more months of winter left I couldn’t bear the thought of stuffing my trouser jeans into my boots and having bunchy pant legs. Or even worse salt stains.
So I went to try on a pair of grey skinnies I saw at Banana Republic, that were also ***bonus*** on sale. And while they were skinny without being skin-tight I just couldn’t buy into the look any longer. I went from looking lean and borderline tall to looking stumpy. All I wanted to do was put my Paige Rising Glen’s, a high-waisted bootcut, back on and walk out.
I had imagined the grey skinny jeans would transform me into this edgy rock star type. Really they were just unflattering.
Don’t get me wrong. Even though everyone is heralding this spring as the revival of wide legged denim, I really think that skinny jeans are a staple. I love the streamlined leg and they are perfect for stuffing into boots. But just like many things skinny jeans look better on a leaner figure.
I have found a way around the whole skinny jean phenomenon. A slim straight leg jean works as a great substitute. And it was what I was wearing until wore out the knee and bum in the past month. Chances are I will re-buy the Real Straight Gap jean I have been sporting the past couple years. But right now I am leaving the skinny jeans at the store.
I read this past week that Rachel Zoe doesn’t wear skinny jeans because she doesn’t like they way the look on her. Do you wear skinnies regardless of whether they are the most flattering style for your body type?
